Most beautiful in Sweden

The most beautiful town approach in Sweden is a general description of the southern approach to Lindesberg. The road entering the town from the south is built on a narrow gravel ridge formed during the Ice Age, that divides Great Lake Linde from Little Lake Linde.
The tourist boat Råsvalen, leaves from the landing stage by the church and eases her way towards the lower creek (Bottenån) and the newly laid out bathing beach, which is only a few hundred metres from the town centre.
The town centre offers a variety of shops with a number of restaurants, coffee shops and snack bars. One of the main streets is closed to traffic during the summer months providing a pleasant pedestrian shopping area. An 18-hole golf course laid out in parkland and woodland, lies within walking distance of the town centre. The Garden Centre (Plantmarknaden) is also nearby offering a large variety of trees, shrubs and plants for the gardening enthusiast, and with the added attraction of an animal park.
Lindesberg is both large and small. Large enough to be able to offer the services required by its inhabitants, yet small enough to retain the intimacy of a rural town. This combination makes the town both interesting for the tourist, as well as, pleasant for the inhabitants to live and work in.

History of a "checked" town

Surveyor Tomas Kristoffersson was instructed to draw up a town plan at the time that Lindesberg received its Charter in 1644. He drew a checked plan having longitudinal and transverse streets, which was typical of town plans of that era. The implementation of this plan was made easier because of the fire that destroyed the greater part of the old town during the same year. The central area of Lindesberg reflects that plan even today.
